where are they now?

Nothing marks time better than women’s fashion.

And to that I would add, an annual trip to the same destination.

“What year did that guy ask us to help him dye his hair? I can’t even remember his name now.”

“Oh god, that was a big year,” I say, remembering swarthy little Michael, the ex-boyfriend of a friend of a friend.  “I wonder what happened to him?”

They’re all big years.  In different ways, of course.  A changing cast of characters with a few regulars to help keep the history straight.  Every condition imaginable on the mountain.  Every state of mind.  Questions popped , babies announced, limbs broken.  Sorrow.  Repair.  Discovery.  Joy.

The walls of Stormy 354 hold 16 weeks of my life over 16 years.

Remember when we gave Susan her own personalized plunger?  When Boyder almost broke his neck sledding?  The time when Johnny thought someone slipped him a mickey at the foosball table?  When Linda revealed she was falling in love with Kent?  When some guy from Tennessee dumped scented oil into the hot tub?  And Patty found a closeup of a cowboy’s six shooter (out of its holster) in her mountain shots?  Remember when Jack looked high and low for his jeans and he was wearing them?  When Jan forgot her bathing suit for the third time?

And we met the guys from Club 706?

Tomorrow I will return to Steamboat to experience my 17th year on the mountain and within the walls of Stormy 354.

Not knowing what lies ahead is a beautiful thing.

I will return in 7 days with new perspectives.
