common ground

This piece portrays the collective heart emanating from one ground.

The foundation of the concept is that differences are mediated through the heart — and held between heaven and earth.

I started with the male/female difference, blending these two hearts to form a third.  Then I worked at a more granular level to establish diversity and irregularity within the whole, demonstrating how inclusion contributes to harmony and balance.

Along the way, patterns of hearts within hearts developed naturally.  This nesting gives another layer of meaning to the painting — include and transcend.

To me it says —

I am part of the whole.

The combinations for beauty and harmony are endless.

Our hearts are dynamic.

We come from the same place.

And —

We are one.
