studio 2016

In the summer of 2015 I set a plan in motion to invite relocation into my life. It started by building a wall in my condo in July.

With the addition of this wall, I had a two-bedroom to put on the market in September.

In the four months that followed, my dog Stella and I endured living in the sanitized and staged environment which is apparently what potential buyers require these days.

I agreed to depersonalize our space, removing all evidence of our unique presence and the things we do in here which I suspect are also things the future owners would also want and need to do here.

Laundry. Cooking. Bathing. Reading. Relaxing.

And, for four months —

Painting.

When the new year arrived and my home remained in my possession —

I took it back.

Completely.

The empty second bedroom waiting for some future homeowner to imagine what they might put in it is now filled with inspiration and ingredients for my next piece of art.

I remain in transition, but I move forward with a great truth.

Though everything is passing and must be let go, I also must create.

It’s a part of the whole of who I am. Indivisible from my being. And I separate myself from it at great peril.

Welcome 2016 and bless the unfolding of creation in all life in this new year.

  1. Congratulations, Julie! Though you didn’t get to relocate elsewhere, you are differently locating where you are – kind of interesting process! And you are creating as you go – always a good thing!
